<div style="text-align: justify;">
Doctor Who - <i>Shroud of Sorrow</i>. This book is a very good read, especially if you watch BBC's television show 'Doctor Who'. But there's something for fans of the old series too, it includes flash backs from the classic series. The central characters in this story are the Eleventh Doctor and his companion, Clara Oswald. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The novel is about grief and how we deal with it. In the story the Doctor and Clara come from another planet to Earth. They can travel through time and space by T.A.R.D.I.S (time and relative dimensions in space, if you don't watch the show). When they get to Earth they find that a race called the Shroud are taking over the world using grief as a weapon. The Shroud can transform their face to take on the appearance of a dead, loved one. For example, one of the victims of the Shroud was called Mae and she saw her dead grandmother. The Shroud (disguised as Mae's grandmother) accused Mae for killing her grandmother. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Shroud can become things, for example a stain or a burn could be in the shape of the Shrouds form. The Shroud then transformed themselves into people but now they only looked like the disguise to the victim, the Shroud would now (because they were in human form) hold hands with their victim. All the victims would go through the 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and finally acceptance but once they get to acceptance they would never go back to their normal selves. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Doctor, Clara and a couple of others who are not victims of the Shroud have to go through a wormhole to the planet the Shroud last attacked in order to find the key to saving Earth.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The thing I like most about the book is the characters Clara and the Doctor because the author got the them exactly as they are in the television show. When the Doctor uses his hands for form puppets of them Clara asks which one is him, he holds up a hand and she says, "The chin's too small." I loved these witty interactions they shared.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I also liked how this book used actual events from the Doctor's previous regenerations, for example, people the Doctor used to know.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I rate this book out of five Daleks:</div>

It's really fun! Here is the URL for Black Cat Books and Cafe: <a href="http://www.blackcatbooks.com.au/" target="_blank">http://www.blackcatbooks.com.au</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">With this story, we had to include words as they were called out, to make it a little tricky. I've made the key words bold for you to see.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So here is my story:</span><br />
<br />
<b>Sunshine</b> was scared of the ghost behind the <b>straw</b> in the garage. He was a <b>yellow</b>ish coloured ghost and had no <b>shoes</b> on. He had a beard and bright red eyes but he made her <b>giggle</b> whenever she walked past him.<br />
"<b>Stop</b> it and just go away" Sunshine screamed at the ghost. His tummy <b>rumbled</b>. Then it was <b>dark</b> and Sunshine was at a small <b>creek</b>. She heard the <b>noise</b> of the ghost, but this time Sunshine was the one with no <b>shadow</b> or <b>heart</b>, she could not <b>run</b> away anymore. It was Sunshine who was now the ghost behind the straw.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Thanks for letting me share my story! I know I haven't reviewed for a little while, but I'll be back soon with a new review.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

the pair of men first on their way to work. The bus driver dropped them off 14
miles from the barn so they spent the rest of the day walking when they finally
rest at the side of a water bed. In the book the place they stopped is
described in the book with very descriptive and almost poetically by Steinbeck.
Here is an example of his style of writing:<i>
'On one side of the river the golden foothill slops curve up to the strong and
rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with
trees-willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf
junctures the debris of the winter's flooding; and sycamores with mottled,
white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over the pool.'</i><i><o:p></o:p></i></div>

After the text above it introduces Lennie and
George as opposites but, they still manage to have a bond as tight as brothers.
George, a realist, is smaller and weaker than Lennie, but he is the smarter
one. Lennie, on the other hand, is a huge guy with a brain as big as a peanut
and the strength of a lion. Lennie is a dreamer.<o:p></o:p></div>

Lennie
forgot everything he was ever told but always remembered the story about the
rabbits. The story is dream that the pair shared to rise there hopes. It starts
off by George saying that men like themselves are lonely as hell cause they got
no one and have no home to go to. But not them cause, as Lennie said excitedly,
"I've got you and you got me an were gonna get a house together with
chickens and a cow and rabbits and I can tend to them and grow alfalfa for

The book <b><i>Of
Mice and Men </i></b>has the theme of<b><i> </i></b>belonging and people's rights. It
shows this mainly through the characters Cooks, a dark-skinned man, and Curly's Wife, who likes talking to the other
workers.The time this book was based there were little to
no rights for women and black people. For example, Cooks was to sleep in the stables cause he was black and he was so lonely because no one would talk to him. Curly's wife is
also lonely because she is not allowed to talk to anyone other than her husband (who is not a nice guy). That is all because of how they look and their gender.
They also show how unwelcome Curly's wife is--through the whole book no one
mentions her name because it didn't matter, all they needed to know was she's Curly's wife.<o:p></o:p></div>

The Characters in this book are...</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This story is set in a big city. Phyllis lives in a huge apartment with it's own personal theatre, where she performs her magic tricks.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Phyllis is a good magician, but is there someone better? Someone using their skills to steal? A theif acomplishing the impossible, like making the famous Van Rockechild necklace just disapear or switching somthing right in front of sombody's eyes without them noticing. Phyllis decides to solve the mystery because the first crime happens in Mrs Lowerblast's antique store and she is another friend of Phyllis. The genre of this book is mystery--a crime, but also the mystery of magic.</div>

<i><b>Graceling</b> by Kristin Cashore</i> is an exciting and enticing fantasy that starts with a girl in a fantasy realm called The Seven Kingdoms. Katsa is almost like every other girl, except for the fact that she has a talent for killing things. This is an interesting trait, but she is left with the notion that it's every person for themselves. She is a Gracling. Graclings are just people who have a special gift, some more useful then others. You can tell a graced person by their eyes, they are different colours. One day Katsa meets a boy with the most spectacular eyes, one silver and one gold. The day she meets Po? That's the day her life changes. <div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Katsa has always been an obedient assassin and thug for her greedy uncle, the Kind of her realm, but Po makes Katsa start to question her role. When Katsa disobeys the King for the first time, she now finds herself an outlaw on the run. She may as well follow Po on his mission to stop an evil Gracling. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I liked Katsa, she is brave, strong and willing to do anything to protect her friends. She is really inspiring. All the characters in this novel were well developed, like Bitterblue, even though she's a little kid and traumatised, she has moments of strength. Po seems to be a lighthearted character, but he will be tested.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This thrilling action is so fast paced, you won't want to put the book down (I know I didn't). The thing that stood out about it compared to other fantasy stories is it's written from the point of view of not only a girl, but a girl who is a warrior at heart. I love this amazing book and I give it out of 5 paper dolls:</div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman';">When You Reach Me</span></i><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman';"> by Rebecca Stead is a story about
Miranda, who is in Yr 6 and best friend with Sal, the boy from her building. At
least they were friends until the weird kid at school punched Sal for no
reason. Now Sal won’t talk to Miranda and she doesn’t know why.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 6.0pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: 14.2pt; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: large;">Then something strange happens. Miranda starts getting
letters. She doesn’t know who is sending them. In this mystery, Miranda must
figure out who is sending her letters, because it’s getting kind of creepy. In
the first letter the writer claims her friend is in danger and he needs to save
them.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 6.0pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: 14.2pt; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: large;">Most of this story is in first person, from Miranda’s point
of view. One unusual thing Rebecca Stead did with this novel was to also include
the second person point of view. Second person is when a story uses ‘you’ as a
pronoun. It feels like Miranda is speaking to you when you’re reading.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 6.0pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: 14.2pt; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: large;">The characters in this story felt real. Sometimes they did
things wrong and made mistakes but they were trying their best and this made me
care about the characters. One of of my favourite characters was the laughing
man, an old homeless guy who does strange things every day like murmuring
‘book-bag pocket-shoe’ or even practices kicking in the air. He also sleeps
with his head under the mailbox. Miranda is another character I love because
she tries really hard at things but sometimes they still don’t come out the way
she wants. It makes me feel like she’s a normal person.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 6.0pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: 14.2pt; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">

is very populated which makes it a dangerous city for Miranda to just roam
around. But by the end of the book I liked the city Miranda lived in, because I
really got to know Miranda’s part of town.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 6.0pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: 14.2pt; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: large;">I recommend this book for girls, no matter what age. It's a story about relationships and puzzles. I like
solving mysteries and you can try and solve Miranda’s mystery before she does.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

</div><div><div style="text-align: justify; "><b><i></i></b></div><div style="text-align: justify; "><b><i>Malice</i></b> <i>by Chris Wooding</i>, is a horrifying book about a world that exsits inside a scary comic book. To get there you have to do the ritual and call on 'Tall Jake'. Two kids called Kady and Seth do not believe these rumours about this strange land until their friend goes missing.</div><div style="text-align: justify; "></div></div><div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify; ">This is the scariest book I have ever read, especially the first chapter when a boy performs the ritual, the lights go out and you just know 'Tall Jake' is coming. Even though I had nightmares about it, my friends are still fighting over who will read it next.</div><div style="text-align: justify; "></div></div><div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify; ">What I like most about this book is it is a great book for kids that don't like to read much and for the classroom. Even though it looks like a thick book it is half comic/half novel and both boys and girls will enjoy it.</div><div style="text-align: justify; "></div><div style="text-align: justify; ">The other really cool thing about this book is it has a 3D front cover. It looks like Tall Jake is coming out of the book to get you!</div><div style="text-align: justify; "></div><div style="text-align: justify; ">You'd think I wouldn't want to read any other scary books after having nightmares after reading<i>Malice</i>, but no, I can't wait to read another scary book!</div></div><div></div><div>I rate this book out of five:<div class="separator" style="clear: both; </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><i><b>Jasper Jones </b>by</i> <i>Craig Silvey</i> is about a Charlie who is startled in the middle of the night by rebel, Jasper Jones.</div><div>
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> Charlie is a smart boy, but he doesn't have many friends, so when Jasper comes to his house he is surprised that he knows Charlie's name, let alone where he lives. Jasper takes him out of town and he starts to worry this is a bad idea. It's too late to leave now, Charlie doesn't know his way back. They go through a clearing and Charlie is horrified to see a girl from his class hanging from a rope, cold dead! He is even more shocked to see it is... Ha! You really think i'd tell who the girl is? I guess you will just have to read the book. It takes Jasper to point out the surroundings for him to realise it isn't a suicide. It was <i>Murder!</i></div><div><i>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: georgia; font-size: 100%;"><b><i>The Looking Glass Wars</i> by Frank Beddor</b> is a book about a girl named Alice, who lives in Wonderland (Oh! I almost forgot, she isn't any ordinary girl, she's a princess!). But on her 7th birthday her aunt, Red, attacked the Queendom! In all the massacre, Red killed Alice's mum & dad and tried to kill Alice!</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: georgia; font-size: 100%;">Luckily the Hatter got her safely to the pool of tears. She had been wishing for an adventure for her birthday, she certainly got what she wished for as she jumped into the pool of tears and came out to a whole new place called London. Meanwhile the Hatter was in a place called Paris. Not knowing were Alice was he searched the whole country for her and would search the hole world for her if he had to so she can fulfil her destiny and kill Red!</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: georgia; font-size: 100%;">There are more problems - Alice is adopted and is told that what she says about Wonderland is nonsense, she finally believed her new family and forgot all about her aunt & Wonderland. Now she is 20 and going tho marry a prince! Will she remember who she is in time to go back and save Wonderland?</span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: georgia; font-size: 100%;">Sound slightly familiar? This story is like a reversal of Alice in Wonderland. But there are many differences - it's much darker. This excellent book is a book that was chosen by the book club I go to so I do have to thank them because otherwise I would have never read it!</span></span></div>

<i style="font-weight: bold;">Hamlet </i>written by Shakespeare and put into a graphic novel by Nicki Greenberg.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We all know the famous play writer William Shakespeare and the plays he wrote a long time ago like... <b><i>Romeo and Juliet,</i></b> <b><i>Macbeth</i></b>, <b><i>A Midsummers Night Dream</i></b>, <b><i>Julius Caesar</i></b> and also <b><i>Hamlet</i></b>. Today I'm going to review Nicki Greenberg's graphic novel of <i style="font-weight: bold;">Hamlet. </i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i style="font-weight: bold;">Hamlet</i><i style="font-weight: bold;">'s </i>done in pictures (as you know, graphic novels are like that) but these pictures are done differently than you would expect like the creatures in here aren't human and are some little black things {I have no way of explaining them - but I like them}. If you don't read much Shakespeare {like myself, I have only seen the movie of<b style="font-style: italic;"> Romeo and Juliet</b>} and want to read a graphic novel or just one Shakespeare play {or book}, this is a pretty easy read. It is a big book, but mostly pictures. Plus this is a long play, so you expect it to be big.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I recommend <b><i>Hamlet</i></b> because it's a quick read but a tiny bit hard because every Shakespeare book or play has different words like 'thou' and lots more other words not in our vocabulary. Also WARNING I DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN MY AGE unless they don't mind death. It is a little gruesome. I loved it so much I watched the movie afterwards. That was good too. I also got my family to act out my favourite scene - the last one.</div>

I rate this out of 5 paper dolls...</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>Catching Fire</i></b> ~ the second book in <b><i>The Hunger Games</i></b> written by Suzanne Collins</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>Warning, this review may contain spoilers for the 1st book The Hunger Games.</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>Catching Fire</i></b> is about a girl called Katniss Eveerdeen. She lives with her sister Prim and her mother (her father died in a mine accident in their district, district 12 of Panem). Katniss takes care of her family now that her father is dead and her mother has gone into a deep depression. For 76 years there has been <i style="font-weight: bold;">The Hunger Games</i>, where 23 kids aged 12 to 18 died. Katniss knows because she was in the 75th Hunger Games. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There used to be 13 districts and the Capitol. The Capitol was rich as they got as much food as they wanted.<b style="font-style: italic;"> </b>District 13 complained about the unfairness of the way the food all went to the Capitol and they got left with almost nothing. They started an uprise against the Capital, but the Capitol fought back and after that the entire district 13 was gone forever. To make sure this never happened again, the Capital created <i style="font-weight: bold;">The Hunger Games</i> where each district every year {not the Capitol of coarse} got a girl and a boy (called 'the Tributes') out of each district and they all have to fight to the <b>DEATH</b>. If they don't <b>kill</b> each other, then thats when the Capital brings out the obstacles like:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Wolf looking creatures</b> - made out of the personality {but a lot more vicious} and the eyes of dead tributes. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Tracker Jackers</b>- bee looking things that if you get stung or hurt by them you will probably die. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Jabberjay</b> - These birds are made to copy what people say and are used in the games. They get the birds to do a scream of a loved one so the Tributes get very upset.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Fog</b>- The Capital gets a fog that makes the tribuets weaker and have no strength and also it kills these tributes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Monkey creatures</b> - Orange monkeys that will use their claws to rip apart Tributes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In <i style="font-weight: bold;">The Hunger Games</i> Primrose Everdeen's name got called out at the reaping and Katniss volunteered for her 12 year old sister Prim. That's how she became district 12's first girl winner and a hero to her people. A Tribute never has to go back into the reaping once they win. Until now.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>Catching Fire</i></b> has the Capital change the rules and decide that they want 'the girl on fire' back, so for the first time ever they put all people that have won the games before in the reaping and that only means one thing - Katniss is going back to the Capital. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This book has a HUGE twist at the end of it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I rate this book out of 5 paper dolls... </div>

As my sister pointed out we are doing the A~Z challenge.</span><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;">I'm reviewing today B for <i>Beauty Queens</i> by Libba Bray. When I read this book I actually listened to it on audible and found out something that rarely happens, it was read by Libba Bray!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;">
</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;">Beauty Queens is about a, well, Bunch of beauty queens who are flying on their way to the next Pageant. But on the journey the plane crash lands into a deserted island. Everyone is dead except a handful of happy, beautiful, good hearted girls who wouldn't hurt a fly. After all, we are reminded at the beginning of the book that this is a happy book, filled with nice things, as all books for girls should be. Yeah right!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;">
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;">Follow these girls as they blow up snakes, make camp out of ball gowns, get food and SURVIVE (even without makeup!). And that's not all they have to face, there seems to be someone else on the island, what will they do when even their sponsors want them dead. This is a fun adventure with non stop comedy.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;">
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;">One of the things I really like about this book is the way it breaks down our society's expectations of what it means to be a girl and how girl's SHOULD behave. My favourite character is Tiara - read it, or better still let Libba Bray read it to you, she does an awesome job!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:100%;">

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">This is a fact book about, well just about everything, and it starts from when there was nothing (before the big bang) to Julia Gillard our first female prime minister. It is a very good information book for my age group and younger. I came across this non~fiction book at a book launch at the Black Cat Cafe. I even managed to get the book singed by the author Tania McCartney. At this book launch Tania read the story out to all the people there, and, during the story she gave out little figurines, wigs, fake money and some other things that match the story. I got to hold the first mobile phone (even though this one was fake). After the story she asked us to all line up in the order of when things first came out in Australia. At the event there were some authors my sister and I have blogged about like...</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;"> Quiet, unpopular, Sci-fi fan Mia Everett was surprised when hot, footy player Rob Ziggerman asked her to the prom. But, despite the 6 dates to prove it was official, Samantha had to ruin things by wearing low cut tops, expensive shoes, being... well the most popular girl in school and trying to steal <b>her</b> boyfriend. What she didn't know is Mia is clever and has a best friend with connections. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Unfortunately, Mia didn't realise a harmless love spell could end up becoming a deadly spell called <i>Viral Zombaticus</i> which translates to Zombie Virus. Doing the spell turns her into the Zombie Queen. As fun as it is receiving food and having everyone <span class="Apple-style-span"></span>bow down to her, her popularity is short lived as the new boy in her her class tells her being a Zombie Queen also means she's first on the menu. With the help of her hypochondriac best friend, Candice, and the mysterious new boy named Chase Miller (who also happens to be a Zombie hunter hottie), they must race against the clock to try and stop her classmates from turning into brainless flesh-eaters.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
We're back!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After moving from Yass to Brisbane, my sister and I have been busy settling into our new schools - which we LOVE! But I've missed my blog, and Milly has too, so here you go with our first review this year:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For today, I am going to review the book<i> Little Manfred</i> by Michael Morpurgo.
<i>Little Manfred</i> is about a 12yr. old girl named Charley and the Manfreds in her life. Turns out to be a few.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Charley's mother, Grace, had a wooden toy dog she loved which she had named Little Manfred. Charley loved that toy too, so much that she named their real dog (a border collie, just like my dog, Zoe) Manfred. But when Charley and her 7yr. old brother meet a stranger on the beach, she discovers her mother has a past. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now Charley has lots of questions. Who is this Walter from Germany? Who was Little Manfred named after? And, who was Marty? But most of all - what happened to Manfred?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This book was really good, it's an easy read and I found out some things about the war. It's interesting and a little sad, but cheerful too. I can recommend Little Manfred. Even though it was a small chapter book, I did expect something more from the story. Not sure why. You might not have heard of this story before but you probably know another book Michael Morpurgo wrote:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This book is right next to my bed and I'm about to start reading it... hope I don't cry! I'll let you know what I think.</div>
<br />
Anyway, I rate <i>Little Manfred</i> this out of five paper dolls...<br />

And more on books with dogs, my mum's new book is out and you can buy it on Amazon. That's so cool! She says we can't review it because we're related :( but have a look at the trailer, I'm going to make one for it too.</div>

Yes, the person who wrote this book wrote it about you! Also, you get to make your own decisions in the story and choose what happens next. So it's a book with more than 20 possible endings.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In this book you get 8 friends... (if you chose the right ending)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Emmy ~ A brave girl who loves swimming and boating.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Isabel ~ A confident girl with a funky sense of style.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Amber ~ An animal lover and loyal friend.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Neely ~ A creative girl who loves dance, music and art.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Riley ~ A good sport on the field and off.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Paige ~ A nature lover who leads hikes an campus cleanups.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Logan ~ A super smart girl who is curious about everything.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Shelby ~ A kind of girl who is there for her friends and loves making new ones.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>A Girl's Best Friend...</i></b> well hopefully everyone knows what that is (here's a clue is it's a mans best friend too).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>A Girl's Best Friend</i></b> has a puppy in it. The puppy's name is Pepper and in this story you are intreserd in the Pepper (you work at a dog place). Pepper is more energetic than the other dogs all together. Pepper is a Husky. In this story you worry that he is in danger and you might have to break some rules to protect him - will you choose loyalty?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When my mum gave me this book, I was so excited, I jumped up and down. I've never read a 'choose your own adventure' book before and couldn't wait! I sat down straight away and read the story to the end. Now I can read it again and have different endings! It's not a long story, like a novel, but it was fun. I also like that the book has a nice hardcover.</div>
<br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><i> The Looking Glass Wars</i> by Frank Beddor</b> is a book about a girl named Alice, who lives in Wonderland (Oh! I almost forgot, she isn't any ordinary girl, she's a princess!). But on her 7th birthday her aunt, Red, attacked the Queendom! In all the massacre, Red killed Alice's mum & dad and tried to kill Alice! </div><div style="text-align: left;">
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Luckily the Hatter got her safely to the pool of tears. She had been wishing for an adventure for her birthday, she certainly got what she wished for as she jumped into the pool of tears and came out to a whole new place called London. Meanwhile the Hatter was in a place called Paris. Not knowing were Alice was he searched the whole country for her and would search the hole world for her if he had to so she can fulfil her destiny and kill Red! </div><div style="text-align: left;">
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">There are more problems - Alice is adopted and is told that what she says about Wonderland is nonsense, she finally believed her new family and forgot all about her aunt & Wonderland. Now she is 20 and going tho marry a prince! Will she remember who she is in time to go back and save Wonderland?</div><div>
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Sound slightly familiar? This story is like a reversal of Alice in Wonderland. But there are many differences - it's much darker. This excellent book is a book that was chosen by the book club I go to so I do have to thank them because otherwise I would have never read it!</div><div>
</div><div> This is a wonderful book and I give it out of 5 paper dolls :</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 30px; height: 79px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPWcgEYHe6BpJOQnVjn5pYPXNsMWgEbpzkuXy8Y3w4mBYe8nuOWpis4Ruh8lUuTh44aToplhsgOuC5-6C40kFG-aw-t7McXLovndP17e8J_Wrlk_VVm1n4-5yc4hkCbljNL3VXbW99XDk/s320/paperdollsscore.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652776010495848898" /><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPWcgEYHe6BpJOQnVjn5pYPXNsMWgEbpzkuXy8Y3w4mBYe8nuOWpis4Ruh8lUuTh44aToplhsgOuC5-6C40kFG-aw-t7McXLovndP17e8J_Wrlk_VVm1n4-5yc4hkCbljNL3VXbW99XDk/s320/paperdollsscore.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652776010495848898" style="cursor: pointer; width: 30px; height: 79px; " /><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPWcgEYHe6BpJOQnVjn5pYPXNsMWgEbpzkuXy8Y3w4mBYe8nuOWpis4Ruh8lUuTh44aToplhsgOuC5-6C40kFG-aw-t7McXLovndP17e8J_Wrlk_VVm1n4-5yc4hkCbljNL3VXbW99XDk/s320/paperdollsscore.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652776010495848898" style="cursor: pointer; width: 30px; height: 79px; " /><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPWcgEYHe6BpJOQnVjn5pYPXNsMWgEbpzkuXy8Y3w4mBYe8nuOWpis4Ruh8lUuTh44aToplhsgOuC5-6C40kFG-aw-t7McXLovndP17e8J_Wrlk_VVm1n4-5yc4hkCbljNL3VXbW99XDk/s320/paperdollsscore.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652776010495848898" style="cursor: pointer; width: 30px; height: 79px; " /></div><div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Toppling is about a boy named John who is addicted to dominos. His best friend in the story, Dom, gets cancer. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This story is about friendship. John gets sad and worried for his friend Dominick. We've been reading this novel in my classroom, and a lot of John's story happens at his school and in his year 6 classroom.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
John says the best thing about his school is his mates. The next
best thing? Lilly, a girl he likes. School becomes less fun for John when Dom stops coming because he's too sick. John goes to visit Dom in the hospital but doesn't recognise his friend at first because he looked so pale and thin... and he was bald! This is the first time in John's life he had to deal with a possibility of a death.<br />
<br />
This novel gets serious in parts but does have some funny and happy moments.<br />
<br />
I thought it was an okay book. My favourite part was the ending, I thought it was really funny but I won't spoil it for you. Some parts of the book were a bit slow.<br />
<br />
I rate this book out of 5 paper dolls...<br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://clancytales.blogspot.com/2011/07/imagination-sparks-blogfest.html">Imagination Sparks</a> is an awesome blogfest to share your favourite creativity exercise and I have decided to join.</div><div>
</div><div>The creativity task I chose is called <b>dream</b> + <b>pen</b> + <b>paper</b> = <b>story</b>.</div><div>
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">What you will need for this exercise is a pen, paper and a dream or nightmare (I know you don't like having nightmares, but they make the best stories!).</div><div>
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Before you go to sleep make sure you have a pen and paper right next to your bed. If it's not close you won't feel like looking for it in the dark.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I'm going to try other bloggers ideas from the blogfest, and I'll post about what story ideas I get.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I sometimes fall asleep listening to an audiobook, and this seems to help me dream. But keep in mind if you dream about being a young girl getting sent off to games where you have to fight the death - this might not be your own original idea (Hunger Games). There are also some hypnosis recordings that can help you think imaginatively if you listen to them right before you go to sleep.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">If you wake during the night, after a brilliant dream/nightmare, force yourself to write down some notes or even just key words. If you don't, chances are you'll forget it in the morning.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Even the weirdest dreams can be used for a story. If your dream makes no sense to you (people merging into rabbits and flying off), still write it down. You might be able to separate each idea for an element towards a story - or you may have the next <i>Alice in Wonderland</i>!</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">When you're ready to write your story. Try doing a couple of minutes of just free-writing or brainstorming to see how many story ideas you can get from your dream.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">If you have some fun creativity exercises, it's not to late to join just go to <b><a href="http://clancytales.blogspot.com/2011/07/imagination-sparks-blogfest.html">Wagging Tales</a> </b>and sign on!</div>Millyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04060187369965705665noreply@blogger.com0
